Yes to God Study - Week 3

This week, Lelia's study of Lysa TerKeurst's book, What Happens When Women Say Yes to God, covers Chapter 3: When Obedience Becomes Radical. In February, I wrote a post about God speaking to me to turn of the T.V. and use my time more wisely. I really related to what Lysa said on page 44, "It wasn't that what I was watching was bad - it just wasn't God's best."

In the 3 months since the television went off, I have become much more intentional with my time. I know I have to stay focused with obedience on meaningful activities. Otherwise, I could replace the television with another "escape."

Through this experience, I am living out the words from page 53, "The more we say yes to God, the more we will live in expectation of seeing Him."As I see how He has used this experience for my growth, I trust that I will be more open to hear and follow His directions.

The Bible study at the end of the chapter asks us to comment on the statement:

"We need not fear what our obedience will cause to happen in our life. We should only fear what our disobedience will cause us to miss."
For me, I think the fear of what obedience may cause to happen in my life comes from wanting to see the details of the big picture. I must remember to be assured that God has worked out the details for my good, as Lysa states on page 45. It will definitely help me to change my perspective to focusing on trusting God and what I may miss if I am disobedient.

I understand that fear. I let fear make too many of my decisions for me. I will pray for both of us to let our faith in God who only has good in mind for us overcome our fear.

Fear is definitely what so often keeps me from radically obeying God. I'm so encouraged when I read in the New Testament that in their fear, the disciples still followed. God certainly knows we're going to face fear - there are 365 references to "fear not" in His Word (that's one for every day of the year), but in our fear, despite our fear, regardless of our fear, we still need to follow...and as we do our faith will grow.

I'm currently facing one of my biggest fears. God has said 'come' and I've responded with a 'yes'. I'm trusting Him like I have never done before and know that I will come to know Him more through this adventure.

Thanks for sharing your step of obedience. It is an inspiration and encouragement.

Blessings,
Joy
